New York Stories: Dentist

new york stories dentist
Proudly fighting stereotypes about English Teeth. And still disappointed that I didn't get to keep my damn xrays.

New York Stories: Fire Priorities

new york stories - fire priorities

In the end, there wasn't actually a fire, but the important thing is that I know where my loyalties lie.

No point pretending these are strictly daily drawings any more, but I'm getting back into the swing of it now I'm back in the city.

New York Stories: Casual

new york stories: casual sick

This woman did not skip a beat. As the bus was pulling up, she leaned slightly forward, blaaaaargh-ed, then just hopped on. Damn, New York, you know how to have a good time.

New York Stories: India Ink

new york stories : goddammit

I am in the wrong profession for clean things.

Also this drawing has nothing to do with New York, it is just a thing that has happened.

New York Stories: Diamond District

new york stories: diamond district

Oh my lord, sometimes I hate walking through the diamond district so much. So many hawkers. Back off! Stop forcing flyers for your sketchy we-buy-gold biz into my hands! And please do not indicate that I am a woman of loose morals if I say 'no thanks' to you!

As if I even own any gold or diamonds. Puh-leeeeeze.

New York stories: Dead mouse

new york stories: dead mouse

The slow, sad rotation of a mouse, with arms outstretched, in a toilet bowl. This happened over a year ago, but re-enacting the mouse's farewell still makes me laugh.

New york stories: Manhattanhenge

new york stories: manhattanhenge

I've started doing a daily(ish) diary(ish) of life in New York. I've been an expat for almost eighteen months now - haven't really done much by way of documenting my life here. But I do have pages of notes of 'things to draw' that have happened here. So now I'm drawing them - some get drawn on the day they happen, but on uneventful days I'm just going to draw something that happened a while ago. Like this.

Happy Valentines Day

business man crying in the street on valentines day

Today I saw a business man crying in the street, hunched in an alcove. Sad times. Hope your Val-Day is better than his.

Grounded hawk

The good people at the New York Times City Room Blog posted my drawings of a hawk I saw injured when visiting their building. Slight problem revealed in the comments section: it appears that my bird is more of a falcon than a hawk. When I drew it I didn't actually know which it was, so I just kind of invented a bird of prey based on a few reference images. I hope the hawk can forgive me. They are just sketches. I will do better in future, little red tailed hawk.
