New Datter Collection

Datter's new lookbook, shot by Sabine Timm At last, the new collection I've been working on for months for Datter is here. The new pieces are a little more abstract, some using motifs from existing pieces - multiplying, simplifying, chopping and changing them around - others completely new.

We also made a new lookbook, photographed by the incredible Sabine Timm. Collector of beach trash, creator of weird, funny, unnatural little worlds.

And the final announcement about Datter is: we now have a studio in Brooklyn as well as in London, and therefore have two websites to go with. There's a USA site for US and Canadian customers, and a UK site for UK, European, and international customers. Anybody can order from either site, of course, but when you visit the sites will try to direct you to the one which gives you the fastest, cheapest shipping options. You can also switch between them by using the flags at the top right. We're a multinational now. Believe.

Sometimes Shop

So, some news: I moved back to NYC and had a pop up shop with friends Leah, Rachel, Monica, Gina, and Masuko. Here are some photos of said shop - it was pretty great, if I do say so myself. We're already planning the next one in December. Back to the salt mines!

New ceramics

DSC_1137
I've finally updated my shop with a bunch of new ceramics - a batch of hands, and a lot of 'seconds'. Pieces that I affectionately refer to as 'weirdo corner' - the ones with, yknow, a little more character than they were intended to have, at low low prices.

If you'd like to stay updated on new ceramics etc as they go into the shop, I have a mailing list now - no spam, just a message when new pieces are listed. In case you keep missing things. Sign up here.

Ceramics Update

I've made a lot of ceramics these last few months. My house is full of them - I've been very slow at posting them though. Not anymore! A whole new batch is up in the shop. Go get 'em!

Ceramics For Sale

At last! I put my ceramics in my shop. It only took, y'know, six months or so. But I finally have enough of them that I like, and feel like I'm going to be able to make more that I like - so it seemed like the right time. Check it out here!
A few of the cats have already found new homes, but more are on the way - the wheel keeps on turnin'.

Press! Press!

Woah, dudes. Datter Industries has had suddenly had some actual press in the last couple weeks. So exciting to see. Check it! First up, my jewellery was written about in Dutch Glamour magazine. A sweet customer in the Netherlands, Lotte, scanned this for me.

I'm also here on the Lucky Magazine website, with the nicest lil' write-up from megababe Meredith Bogonovich. Aaand I believe my jewellery is in this month's LINDA magazine, also a Dutch mag, though I haven't been able to get my hands on a copy or a scan of that yet. Still, radness! Thanks Holland, and thanks Lucky!

Switch on Tiny Showcase

Remember that four-page comic I made a few months back? Perhaps you do. Well, I have exciting news (or at least, news that I am very excited about). My pals at Tiny Showcase have released a beautiful, archival print of the first page of the comic. Man, those guys are good. Not only did they write the sweetest, most hilarious announcement for the upcoming print (seriously, they compare the release of this print to the release of Batman), but they're gonna donate $250 from the sales of print to Médecins Sans Frontières.

In case you wish to order one, they're available right here.

Spring Sale

sale sign

Just a heads up to you loyal followers, I'm having a bit of a spring sale on both my etsy stores at the moment. Partly to offer discounts to international people who couldn't take advantage of the Fab.com sale. People abroad need to save money too!

There's 15% off everything 'til the end of April. The code is (predictably) 'SPRINGSALE' and here are the stores:

Gold leafed lino

gold leafed thumbs up

You know what's a good time It's gold leaf. I've been applying it to some of my lino prints (and also to flowerpots, a biro, a rock, drawings, cups, etc) and enjoying the feeling of great wealth that it gives me.

On a similar note, I've finally got the un-gold-leafed lino prints in my etsy store. The gold leafed ones are available on request, should you desire one.

Dealtime

jewelry group

I'm doing a deal on Fab.com, running over the next few days. Check it out! A bunch of my prints, garland kits, and jewelry are up for less than Etsy prices. It's pretty awesome seeing my stuff up there.

Perpetual face vase

I've been rather jealous of the 3D perpetual face vase that Leah Goren has. I made this as a sort of skew wifff, very poor man's version, with ceramic paints and a vase from a charity shop. It turns and turns and the faces just flow into each other. Filled it with some simple flowers I bought for my mum.

Kaye x Leah

Over the summer I worked on a collaboration with illustrator/designer/woman extraordinaire, Leah Goren. We wanted to make a couple products that would combine our processes, and allow us to share skills with each other. We're both illustrators, but Leah has taken her drawings to textile designs and is a whiz at pattern making. And I'm pretty addicted to making metal pieces. So we got to learn each other's ways! Here's what we came up with. We went in a moody floral direction (I think the floral was Leah's influence, the moodiness I probably need to answer for).

A two-sided tote, with an ink blot test inspired bouquet. You can see on it the pin that we designed: a big spiky sunflower.

An allover-patterned clutch. It's hard to tell scale in these pictures but it is a pretty large pouch - 11" x 8.25".

They're finally up on my etsy, should you wish to see more photos: clutch and tote.

Cat face killer

Made a new banner of my happy cat faces.

Also made some simple packaging for the banners because shipping them off just in plain envelopes was bumming me outtt. Much better now.
